Clegg Industries manufactured three Antarctic traverse structures for Leidos. Leidos provides logistical support to the United States Antarctic Program (USAP).
The USAP traverse modules will serve as mobile “field camps’ during the austral summer months with ambient temperatures typically between -50F and +30F and 24 hour daylight.
Clegg's generator, washroom and galley modules, along with sleeping quarters and storage modules, will be mounted to sled decks and pulled by a large tractor enabling universities, research institutions and foreign nation programs to conduct valuable scientific research in the region.
Each module was built on an all aluminum custom frame. The module structures were manufactured using six inch thick insulated foam panels by Structall Building Systems. Clegg custom manufactured stainless steel snow melter devices, provide a filtered water supply for the galley and washroom modules. Water is pumped from the snow melter into each modules' 100 gallon holding tank.
